Einladung 3. Roundtable Awareness & Diversity Berlin

***English below***

Liebe Alle,

The pandemic not only endangers people’s existences, it also acts like a magnifying glass in exacerbating the inequalities of our society. The goings on of the last weeks and months have made it clear again, that racism is not happening in isolated cases but instead a structural problem. This problem is not a new one, but the worldwide attention towards the topic gives the possibility for change which needs to be taken advantage of.

Racism is deeply ingrained in our daily lives and socialisation. Much of it happens without awareness of the racist mechanisms in one’s own structures. It’s every single person’s responsibility to identify them, reflect on them and actively work against them.Acts of racism and it’s mechanisms happen in many different aspects of club culture – from teams to, communication, on the dancefloor, at the door, in designing the program, etc..For the coming roundtable we have invited actors and initiatives, who work against racism and inequality in club culture, to share their perspectives, experiences and work. We want to discuss and analyse the status quo of club culture as well as develop strategies to work against it with all who participate.

During the last Awareness & Diversity Roundtable, which took place online on 23.03.2020, we were able to get first hand examples of practical awareness work in a Berlin club. The door team of ://about blank and the awareness team of Mensch Meier provided insights in their long-standing awareness and door work, as well as the concepts behind it. They also answered many questions from participants. We’d like to thank ://about blank and Mensch Meier for the open and exciting insights very much.

We’re looking forward to the exchange and to meeting you all again. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to message us.

To Our Online Survey

Online survey on discrimination in Berlin’s queer spaces The working group Awareness & Diversity of the Clubcommission would like to draw the attention of operators of and active people in queer rooms in Berlin to an important survey of the colleagues of GLADT e.V:

Dear operators of and active people in queer spaces in Berlin, with our project „Discrimination-free scenes for everyone!“ (DFS) we have been working for several years on a more inclusive design of and athmosphere in Berlin’s queer spaces. Unfortunately, our twenty years of anti-discrimination and consultancy work with queer and trans* BIPoCs (Black, Indigenous & People of Color) has taught us time and again that not everything that glitters is pink (to say the least). Discrimination based on racism and other ‘isms are still widely spread in queer spaces just as it is the case for the mainstream society.
However, we at GLADT believe that queer spaces in Berlin should be exactly the place where racism and other forms of discrimination should not find any ground anymore. This should be one of the core values of any queer space in this city. With our project we want to fight together with those responsible to raise awareness within the wider Berlin queer community and turn queer spaces into safer spaces for everyone.

Therefore we kindly invite you (as an active person in a queer space) to participate in our online survey. Please forward this survey to everyone in your queer space and environment and support us in our project.
Please find attached an info-sheet with further details about our project and the goals of the survey. If you have questions, feel free to Can from GLADT e.V.
